How to Keep Ants Out of Pet’s Bowl

The ants are back! This time they are terrorizing my pet’s water bowl. Normally, they never get into the water bowl. Different year. Different ants. (I guess…) This is the first year that I’ve had to worry about ants taking over the water bowl for the dog. For some reason, the ants don’t bother with the food bowl. (Can’t figure that one out, yet.) So, I found this little simple trick and decided to test it out. And, yep….it works!

Items Needed: Petroleum jelly

For starters, you’ll only need petroleum jelly. It does the trick. Any kind of petroleum jelly or vaseline will work. If you’re the type that would like to make your own vaseline to use, check out my post here.

First, start rubbing petroleum jelly on the bottom. Then, flip over and rub the petroleum halfway up the side of the dish. If you prefer, rubbing the entire sides of the dish, that is completely fine. The petroleum jelly makes it difficult for the ants to crawl up the side of the dish and get inside the bowl.

Then, after a couple of days, you should notice that the ants will start to disappear and there is a clear bowl.  So happy to see that the ants have moved on to somewhere else.
