How to Make Deviled Eggs

Deviled Eggs

One of my favorite dishes is deviled eggs. I love them during the summer, spring, winter and fall.  I make them different ways depending on the mood that I’m in and how hungry I am.  If I’m hungry, it’s a simple recipe.  For some reason, whenever I think about deviled eggs, I think about potato salad. After preparing back-to-back big dinners (Thanksgiving and Christmas), I was in the mood for something a little lighter.  Here is my quick recipe for making delicious deviled eggs.  I’m making a small batch for today and I’m serving them over a bed of lettuce and tomatoes.

Ingredients:

  • 6 to 7 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon of mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of sweet pickle relish
  • chopped onion (about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon)
  • pepper (optional)
  • pinch of sugar (optional)
  • topping (your choice, i.e., paprika, pepper flakes, bacon bits, etc.)
  • plastic bag and decorative tip (optional)

Directions:

Deviled Eggs

Boil eggs until done. I normally boil my eggs for about  15 minutes.  Place in cool water and let cool.  Slice eggs in half.

Deviled Eggs

Scoop out the egg yolk.  Place in bowl and mash.

Deviled Eggs

Chop about a teaspoon of onion.  Put onion, mayonnaise, mustard and relish into the mashed egg yolks.

Deviled Eggs

Stir ingredients until mixed.  I add in a pinch of sugar at this point.  This is totally optional.

To fill the egg whites, you can clip the tip of a plastic bag, insert a decorative tip if you have one, and fill bag with egg mixture.

Or, if you have this cute little decorative plastic container like I have, you can fill with egg mixture.

Deviled Eggs

Fill egg whites.  Decided if you would like a topping for your deviled eggs.  There are so many choices.  It is totally dependent upon your taste.  You can use bacon pieces, paprika, red pepper flakes, cheese, etc.

Deviled Eggs

I threw crushed red pepper flakes on top of mines.  If you use red pepper flakes, it makes it hot. Though, I think that bacon pieces or bacon bits would have been delicious. I’m not a fan of paprika, which is normally used to top off deviled eggs.  Of course, I can eat them with no topping.  They are simply delicious!

What is your favorite topping for your deviled eggs?

    • Hi Rubiena! This is my favorite little dish that I like to make and have as a nice snack. I just love deviled eggs and not just on the holidays. Hope you enjoy it if you get a chance to try it.

  2. Sandra Goodman says

I love them and make them often. I use sweet pickle relish most of the time but when I want a change i’ll use the dill pickle relish. trying for a healthier version once I mashed up some avocado and used it in place of mayo. commercial mayo has too many ingredients (I should be making it myself… eggs and oil and no extra junk!).

    • Hi Sandra! I haven’t tried making my own mayo, yet. But, I’m sure that I’ll put it on my list of things to try. Definitely, trying to eat more healthier versions of food items….

  3. Deviled eggs are such a great thing to bring to a party. Old-fashioned and most people like ’em. Definitely going to try this recipe out and bring it to my friend’s birthday this Sunday. Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • You’re welcome! They are a great thing to take to the party. I made some more deviled eggs the other day just for a snack for me. Definitely one of my favorites any time of the year.

  4. Hi Sharon, I make mine similar to yours but, have never put relish in them. Might have to give that a try sometime. They look delicious & I love the idea of pepper flakes. We typically use paprika but, we like to spice things up now and again. Hope your new year is off to a great start!

  5. I love deviled eggs. Bacon sounds like a good red pepper substitute! Thank you for linking to the In and Out of the Kitchen Link Party. Hope to see you next week.

  6. Hi Sharon! I’m stopping in from Let’s Get Real today. I have to say that I love deviled eggs and so do my kids. For some reason, I only make them during the summer though. If they love them so much, I really should be making them more. I love that nifty container. My eggs aren’t nearly as pretty. And, thanks for the heads up on the red pepper flakes. My husband will love me even more now. LOL!

    • Hi Christina! I know most people probably make deviled eggs during the summer, but I love them enough to make them all year long. So, we keep plenty of eggs in our house.

  7. I’ve always used pickle relish in my deviled eggs too…and egg salad. I like your tutorial, Sharon. Thanks so much for linking up to Tapas Tuesday Social Happy Hour. Happy New Year 🙂

  12. Thank goodness! Pickle relish! You have no idea how many people around here think I’m weird for putting that in there.

I love the idea of using my decorator to make them look prettier.

  13. I love deviled eggs, though I have to admit I’ve never tried making them. My grandma makes the best ones, and my kids love them, so maybe I’ll give them a try!
Thanks for linking up at Saturday Dishes!
