The winter is approaching and it is definitely the time to take that extra step to ensure that your feet stay soft and smooth during the harsh weather. If you’re like me, you’re going to have your feet in boots during those cold months. It’s definitely a good idea to keep them moisturized, so that they will remain soft and smooth. Our feet can take a beating during the cold, rough weather. I have been using Vaseline on my feet for a very long time. It has been a regular part of my feet regimen for the last 20 years. Of course, when I found out that I could make this stuff, I was totally thrilled. I have bought so much Vaseline. This will definitely cut down on the money I spend on this product. Here are the directions, plus my routine for keeping my feet soft and smooth. Even though I only use Vaseline on my feet, this homemade version can be used in the same ways that you normally use it. It’s not just for the feet. Use it on your hands, lips, elbows, etc. It is wonderful! If you have really rough feet and need something that will really soften then, check out my Homemade Lotion Bars.
Ingredients:
- 1 ounce of grated beeswax (1/8 cup)
- 1/2 cup of olive oil
Directions:
First, let me say that you can use the beeswax pellets. I bought the block because I was able to purchase it from A.C. Moore Craft Store. I know that most people who make this actually prefer the beeswax pellets. You will more than likely have to purchase these online. I also went with purchasing the block because I can have more wax for cheaper. This block is 1 lb and it was priced for $6.99, however, I had a 50% off coupon. So, the price was around $3.50. It will last a longer time and I can make several more batches with the block. I priced some of the pellets and they were around 4 to 5 dollars for 4 ounces of pellets. Of course, the block does take a little more work. It’s totally up to you.
Using a grater, I grated about 2 ounces. Didn’t need that much for this batch. You only need about 1 ounce or so. I probably used about an ounce and a half.
Place oil and wax into a pot. Let it melt over low heat. It melts very quickly. As soon as it is melted, remove from burner.
Pour into a container as soon as it is warm enough. You don’t have to let it sit for long. It will not be too hot to pour into a container. Plus, it will start to gel or stiffen in the pot if you leave it in too long. You will notice that it will become the consistency of Vaseline in about a couple of hours. I did not actually time it. However, it does not take a long time. That’s just how easy it is to make!
Now, how do I incorporate this Homemade Vaseline into my everyday routine?
First, I soak my feet in bubbly water. (I don’t get to soak my feet every day. Would be great, if I could.) Or, I will follow this routine if taking a shower or bath. Towel your feet off. Put on your favorite lotion. Then, immediately, put the Homemade Vaseline on your feet. The Homemade Vaseline has a really soft feel when you put it on. You’ll love it, for sure.
Using a sock that I have cut the foot part off, I cover my feet to retain the moisture from the lotion and Homemade Vaseline. The heel is where the Homemade Vaseline is needed most to work its magic. I leave it on overnight sometimes or I will just leave on for hours while I am doing other stuff. Just follow this little routine as often as possible and you’ll have soft and smooth feet!
Have you tried making your own Vaseline? Do you have a routine that you use for keeping your feet smooth. If so, please share.
I am definitely trying this. I have extremely dry skin and use Vaseline for my dry spots and lip moisturizer as well as an eye make up remover. Thanks for sharing. I am visiting from the Year in Review party.
Hi Kaylor! Thanks for visiting. You must try this. I love it! I always use it on my feet. I’m sure you’ll love it, too…..
I love that you found something you made from scratch and it doesn’t have a bunch of chemicals! I will definitely be using your recipe to get my feet ready for spring and summer!
Hi Krissy! It does wonders to prepare feet for all of those lovely spring and summer shoes….
Thanks for linking up a A Year in Review! This looks like it would feel great on my dry winter hands & feet.
Hi Melissa! You’re welcome. It definitely works miracles on dry hands and feet….
Thank you for posting this! My daughter and I have sensitive skin and are allergic to EVERYTHING you buy in the store. I can now make almost any food from scratch and use substitutions but I was still having trouble with skin. My daughter always has dryness/chapped around her lips during this time of year and it’s worse if a caregiver unknowingly uses the wrong soap on her face. I’ve been using regular Vaseline because it doesn’t break her out but I hated using that petroleum product, especially around her mouth. I will be making this next week to try on her face.
Hi Bekah! You’ll enjoy this one. I’ve just started trying homemade products for skin and am really enjoying the homemade items. Hopefully, during the holiday break I will get an opportunity to try my hand at making different homemade products for the skin….
Perfect timing! My skin always gets dry and cracked during the winter. Can’t wait to try this, thank you!
You’re welcome Remy! I hope you enjoy it….
Hi , well this isnt vaseline its just a simple beewax ointment , my grandmother had this recipe of cource we add Chios’s mastic for antiseptic … this recipe is good not only for feet but as after sun lotion too calms the skin … 🙂
Hi Vasiliki! Thanks for the advice on using as a sun lotion to calm the skin. There are so many uses for this type of product. It is so great….
You are welcome , you can make many versions with this 2 products , add esential oils n more extra virgin oil to be more fluid as an aromatic body lotion , add dry herbs n use it as scrub , u can make ur own olive oil with herbs ( I made my own beewax ointment with St. John’s Wort oil that I did it ,, collect the herbs n add them in a jar with extra virgin olive oil ) has so many uses …
Wonderful tips! Definitely love the aromatic body lotion recipe…..
You’re a woman of many talents, can’t believe you just made Vaseline. Its incredible and unheard of, keep up the good job.
Hi Kira! Thank you! I’m always trying to make something. With snow on the grounds and schools closed, I’m trying to figure out what I’ll make next….
To do a good exfoliating pedicure first, pour one cup of vinegar, one cup listerine (yes mouth wash) and fill a tub of water (I got my tub from a hospital stay. Soak about 10 minutes and then begin to scrub. I will admit that I cheated here and used the brush that is battery operated that I got to clean my shower with (I’ve given it a new use). That brush took off all that dead cracked skin on my feet. And I had been getting regular pedicures!
Now I will make this homemade balm and use it after the cleansing process. Talk about soft! WOW
Thanks Sharon!
Hi Vonnez! This sounds wonderful! I’m always looking for better ways to clean my feet. It seems that I’m obsessed with having smooth and soft feet. Will definitely be keeping this idea and trying it. Thanks…
Not only is this good for dry skin, Vaseline is also excellent for protecting your feet from getting blister or chafed when you wear fancy shoes. I was always concerned about the petroleum derived ingredient, but now I can easily make this with the ingredients available at home! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Srta! I hope you enjoy making it! It is super!
Dear Sharon,
Tq so much for this. am planning to try it and give it as christmas gifts..just a question..it’s not only for the feet, is it? :p..sorry..kinda new in this… 🙂
Hi Tania! It is definitely not just for the feet. It can be used on the entire body. I like to use it for me feet because it is so great, but it can be used just like the regular Vaseline. I hope you enjoy it.
This sounds amazing! I’m a huge fan of Vaseline, and my feet have never been softer when I use it. 🙂
It is! I’m a stickler for keeping my feet soft. Love this…
I just bought beeswax pellets at The Whole Foods Market for $19.99/ lb. They have the block at they same price too.
Sharon , thank you thank you thank you !!! In Nigeria we have wild bees . We buy them from the locals and drain them . I threw up so much of wax over the years not realizing it could be utilized so beautifully and usefully . We buy the honey in the comb I meant , though it is in short supply . I plan to introduce this to pupils of our school . This usefull tip can change a whole nation or even more , the effect could be that far reaching . Hope you don’t mind .
Hi Rukiye! You are most welcome. I’m glad like the post for Homemade Vaseline. You must let me know how it turns out when you make it. It is definitely a favorite homemade product that I like to use…..
I’d like to add a little note….exfoliate first, then try the homemade Vaseline along with the sock. I make my own spa treatments which exfoliate all the really dead skin first. Then I follow up with my body butters.
Thanks for sharing this recipe and idea! I love the thought of soaking my feet every night, and using this would make them buttery soft 🙂 Can’t wait to try it. Thanks for linking up with us at Pimp Your Pinterest!
You’re welcome Jenna! This definitely makes them extra soft and smooth. Trust me, I love when I get the opportunity to soak my feet….
..really love to try this madam, but this ingredients are quiet expensive in our place..
Hi Jera! Sorry to hear that they are so expensive where you are. This would’ve been such a neat homemade product to try. Even when shopping here, I always carry coupons around since all the craft stores take other craft store’s coupons. So, I try never to pay full price.
Where are you located Jera?I will help if I can.
Can’t wait to try this! We keep bees, so I have a ready supply of beeswax.
Hi Charlotte! Keeping bees….that sounds so interesting. Then, I’m sure you have a handy supply of beeswax to use and will love the recipe for Homemade Vaseline.
Sharon, I love this…my feet are always so “crunchy” and especially now that it is getting cold. I use Vaseline too, but I really like the idea of making my own and from all natural products…I am totally pinning and trying! 🙂 Thanks!
Thanks Kim! This is definitely a favorite post of mines. I just love using this homemade Vaseline on my feet! It’s definitely a keeper for me….
Hi there. Stopping in from Let’s Get Real. This post is sure timely. The weather has turned cold here in Ohio and boy does my skin know it. I need to head out and find some beeswax. I bet your homemade Vaseline would be a nice add-on to our holiday gifts.
Hi Christina! I lived in Ohio at some point in my life and I know the cold weather there. (I love the cold weather!) I’m sure this would definitely come in handy in Ohio, especially as the winter season moves in.
Hi sharon!
I hope you know this is not really like Vaseline (that is a petroleum jelly based products), but far better!
I hope you called like this just to remember what was to be used for, but your recipe is better than ever than the industrial one!
Hugs,
MammaNene @ SergerPepper.com
Thank you! Yes, I only called it Vaseline for the namesake of knowing its uses. I am so loving this recipe and its many benefits….
Yep it’s called petroleum jelly. Vaseline is the brand which makes lotions, petroleum jelly and other products. Thanks for sharing, il be making mine tommorow!
I did NOT know you could make homemade Vaseline. This is awesome!
Hi Rosey! Isn’t it wonderful! I use this stuff all the time and being able to make it at home is so great. I think these days you can pretty much make a lot of stuff at home.
Feet treats!! Love this idea. I’m guilty of neglecting my tootsies once flip flop season ends. Not this year!
Hi Patranila! I think a lot of us tend to want to neglect the feet in the winter because we just throw the feet into the boots and keep going. Trust me, the feet will love you for such treats as this.
Hello Sharon, your post on Homemade Vaseline will be one of my Top 5 Features from the SWLP last week, I thought it would be popular! 🙂 Congrats and grab a Featured Button.
Hugs,
Heather

Thanks Heather! I’m always so excited and honored when any of my posts are featured. Again, thanks so much.
Yep, It’s already been pinned! I love homemade recipes. I love the tip on covering your feet to keep the moisture in. I’ve been doing that for years. Works great on the hands too!
Hi Tenns! Isn’t covering the feet with the toe-sock such a great thing for the feet? I love it. It just keeps my feet so soft and smooth.
Pinning this! My poor pedicure always scolds me for how hard I am on my feet. Thanks for sharing at All Things Pretty!
Hi Kathy! Thanks for pinning. I’m hard on my feet during the summer and look forward to giving them a good treatment during the winter.
Well, this is GREAT! My hubby has hooves – and I apologize ahead of time to the pedicurist if we’re there together – and I’m betting this will work wonders!
LOVE DIY/make it yourself sites. Thank you for the recipe! (BTW – found you through Sharefest!)
Hi Lee! That is so funny! Try this and see if it calms the feet….
My cracked heels will be thanking you! Visiting from SITS Sharefest today!
Hi Nicole! Hope you enjoy it. It is too simple to make to pass up.
I just love this! Vaseline is my go-to item for the fall and winter months. I use it as a lip balm, to heal dry and cracking skin, a face moisturizer, and so much more. I love the idea of making my own, rather than buying in the store.
Thanks so much for sharing on Turn It Up Tuesdays! We love having you! 🙂
Hi Natasha! This is favorite of mines. Love it. The uses are just so many, but I love it for my feet. It’s a daily use for me. P.S. Love your new blog redesign!
LOVE this! A friend was just asking me about ideas for ‘healthy vaseline’. Pinning for you and found you from SITS. 🙂
Thanks Courtney! This is definitely more healthier and plus it was so easy to make. Hope your friend likes it. Thanks for pinning!
Hi. I’m the friend Courtney mentioned and I am just getting ready to order some beeswax. Thanks for posting this better alternative to Vaseline. I did find http://www.bulkapothecary.com/ has the pellets for just under $9 a pound. I’m not sure what the shipping is just yet.
HI Trisha! Yes, I remember Courtney mentioning a friend. That’s a great price for a pound of pellets. Hopefully, the shipping will not be too high. You must let me know how your homemade Vaseline comes out when you make it.
I wound up getting this since I have free Prime shipping http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C34V0BO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It was $11.99/lb.
Hi. I just made the recipe this morning 2T pellets (that’s 1/8 cup) to 1/2 C olive oil. It’s pretty firm to the touch when trying to scoop some out but it rubs in well like my CJ’s BUTTer. Have you ever tried whipping yours up or adding a bit more oil to make this petroleum-free Vaseline creamier like Vaseline? Thanks.
P.S. I bet it would be fun to mix in some sort of essential oil for a yummy scent. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about oils at this point. Peppermint would sure smell good though.
Hi Trisha! Glad you got an opportunity to make it. I haven’t tried putting in more oil, but definitely worth a try. It might work. I normally don’t put scents into products I use on my skin. Even when I’m purchasing something, I go for unscented. However, you should try experimenting with putting in an oil scent the next time. Peppermint? Sounds wonderful. I do put in essential oils when making my Homemade Air Fresheners. I’m sure that you’ll find some amazing and wonderful smelling essentials oils to try.
Wow I love it!!! I been making my own face cream. This is a great idea. Pinning!
Hi Lea! Thanks for pinning. This was definitely a great one to make.
Hey Sharon, I can’t believe how easy this is to make. I’ve used Vaseline for a long time, but I like that this product isn’t petroleum based or have parabens.
Hi Lydia! This is definitely one of the quickest DIY posts that I’ve done. I’m sure it’s going to become one of my favorites, too.
So glad I found this on the Create it or Bake it Link Party! My hands and feet are so dry all winter! Can’t wait to try it! http://www.littledairyontheprairie.com
Hi Amy! This will be just what you need for dry hands and feet. It works like a charm…
This diy is a keeper, it’s super dry where we live. & a constant battle to hydrate skin.
Hi Theresa! Then this will definitely come in handy! It is super fantastic….
This is such a great idea!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this girl!! My feet definitely take a beating in the winter! But this will save me money and keep them soft.
You’re welcome Zainab! It is definitely a money-saver. Plus, it has such a smooth feel on the feet.
Hi Sharon. Your Homemade Vaseline looks awesome and seems to work well too! Thanks so much for linking it up to my Sweet Wednesday Link Party! Hope you have a great week.

Thanks Heather! It was my pleasure. Have a wonderful day!
You’re welcome and have a wonderful day too! 😉

Wow…this is great idea. My feet are terribly dry and since I am in flip flops all summer and no real shoes, they are in petty bad shape come winter…the only time I wear sock and shoes! I love the toe-less socks…will have to make me some! Great ideas..thanks for sharing!
Thanks Debby! Yeah…the toe-less socks are pretty cool. I love wearing them. They definitely trap in the moisture which allows the feet to become soft and smooth. The key to the toe-less sock is finding the right socks to cut off.
That looks so easy!!! I have to do it!
Hi Jen! It’s definitely one of the more easier homemade items to prepare. Plus, it’s such a great product to have on hand.
This looks awesome!! I’ll definitely have to make some this winter – my feet get so dry and I love using things I’ve made at home. 🙂
Stopping by for the first time!!
Stef
Our Barefoot Adventures
Hi Stefani! Thanks for stopping in. My feet definitely stay dry and that’s why I keep them moisturized. I love homemade items!
I’ve done something similar before but your recipe is even easier and less ingredients so I want to try this.
Hi Jennifer! This is definitely an easy one to try. I will be keeping this one to use from here on out.
Thanks for this recipe! I am always on the lookout for natural alternatives to beauty products. Definitely pinning this for later!
You’re welcome Candace! I love natural products, too. So great, when you get the time to make them.
Great idea! Never occurred to me to make it! Cause lets face it pedicures don’t happen enough for me in the winter. Would love it if you share it at my first linky party http://mommyondemand.com/create-bake-1-2/
Thanks! Wouldn’t we all love regular pedicures! Will definitely stop by…
This is so cool! It never even occurred to me to do this and it seems so easy. I also use Vaseline on my lips and around my eyes as an eye cream. Can I use the homemade version on my face?
Hi Carla! You can definitely use it on your face and all other uses. I basically use it to keep my feet smooth. Of course, this homemade version is so like the actual Vaseline and can be used just like it.
