Having Brunch With Triscuit Brown Rice & Wheat Crackers

I was planning a day to have some friends over for brunch. At about the same time, Triscuit asked me to review their new brown rice & wheat crackers that’s baked in real food ingredients. Obviously, this is what gives it that natural flavor. I thought it would be fabulous to combine the two events. Now, when it comes to brunch, you need three things…great friends, great food and a great atmosphere. So, I thought I would have brunch on our wonderful deck. Now, the question is what would I serve for the brunch. I needed something to serve with the crackers.

When I first went to the store to purchase the crackers, I had to decide which flavor I wanted to buy. Triscuit has five flavors in this new product. They are

Brown Rice Seasoned with Tomato and Basil
Brown Rice Seasoned with Sea Salt and Black Pepper
Brown Rice baked with Red Bean and seasoned with Roasted Red Pepper
Brown Rice baked with Red Bean and seasoned with Savory Red Bean
Brown Rice baked with Sweet Potato and seasoned with Roasted Sweet Onion

Of course, I knew I would be using the new Triscuit Brown Rice Baked with Red Bean (Roasted Red Pepper). Why? I love red peppers and I knew I wanted to try this one. Also, this flavor has only 110mg of sodium. I’m always on the lookout for low sodium products. Plus, they were on sale and it cost me about $2 per box at Target. Did I mention that I was hungry when I bought them? So, of course, I immediately opened the box and the flavor hits you right in the face. This is definitely a plus.

This is how the new Triscuits look out of the box. They have somewhat of a greasy appearance to them, which may be a turn-off, but the flavor is totally delicious! I ate a couple and let my kids have a couple. They taste like Doritos, corn chips or some type of nacho. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. The kids loved the taste. They are very crunchy, unlike a regular cracker. You will definitely have to chew the cracker a little longer than a regular cracker. I don’t particularly like the long chewing, but I definitely like the flavor. So, I set my mind to what I could use as a topping for the crackers.

I decided to make Sardines with Red and Yellow Peppers. It’s hard to see the yellow peppers. I also made some eggs and put shredded cheese on them. After cooking sardines and eggs, I topped the Triscuit Brown Rice Baked with Red Bean with the sardines and eggs. The toppings were a nice addition, but I think I like them right out of the box, especially since there is so much flavoring on them already. The following is the recipe and directions for making the sardines.

Ingredients:

One Red and Yellow Bell Pepper
Two Cans of Sardines (do not drain)
Olive Oil (About 2-3 Tbs)
Curry Powder
Italian Seasoning
Black Pepper
Ketchup (3 Tbs)

First, chop and saute the red and yellow peppers until soft in olive oil. Then, pour sardines into pepper mix. Break them up with a fork. Season with curry, Italian seasoning, and black pepper according to your taste. Let them cook down. Then, pour about 3 tablespoons of ketchup or more according to your taste. Let it cook down for about 5-7 minutes. Top your crackers. Then serve on a nice platter.

Honestly, these new Triscuit Brown Rice & Wheat Crackers look so delicious with the toppings. However, like I mentioned before, you can skip the toppings, and just eat them right out the box.

A new take on an old favorite. Enjoy the new line of Triscuit baked with whole grain brown rice and wheat, some with real food ingredients like sweet potato or red beans.
