Thinking of making your own face mask…try this little tutorial! Check out the video or follow the steps below.
This is so cute! Thinking of making a couple more for everyone in the family! I have included written directions below.
Items Needed
14in X 9in Cotton Material
Elastic or Cotton strings for ears
Wire (suggestions listed in directions.)
Steps for Making Mask
Step 1:
Use a 14in X 9in cotton material. Cotton material seems to work best. This particular design “I Woof You” came from Joann Fabrics. They sell the little precut cotton fabrics for about $2.99. (Bring a coupon for even less.) Or, find some clothing item at home that is made of cotton.
Step 2:
Open folded material. Flip over on the nonprint side. Put the wire in the center. Close down. (Suggestions for wire: floral wire (craft store), pipe cleaner (dollar store, craft store), store wrappers, and wire from regular plain blue masks. *For this mask, I used the nose bridge wire from the plain blue masks.
Step 3:
Pin down around wire.
Step 4:
Using a needle and thread, baste around the wire. Then, sew an 1/8-inch seam across the entire top part where wire is located.
Step 5:
Remove basting. Using a needle and thread, sew near the end of the wire on each side to keep it enclosed.
Step 6:
Sew around the edges. (About 1/4 inch) Make sure to leave a small opening (about 2 inches) so that you will be able to turn the material over on the right side.
Step 7:
Turn inside out. Use a pointy object to push out corners. Press down.
Step 8:
Fold in opening. Sew closed with a needle.
Step 9:
Topstitch down across the top part with the nose bridge.
Step 10:
Fold 3 layers up; about a half-inch each. (I found it helpful to press down the layers before sewing them down.) Sew layers down on each side.
Step 11:
Attach elastic earpieces on the back. Sew down. (Earpiece suggestions: Basically, any stretchy material will do. Any cotton pieces will do if cut to the desired length according to your face) *For this mask, I used the earpieces off of the regular blue mask.
And you’re done!
*For this mask, it works best to use 14in X 9in the material. That way, you have a FOLD to hold the nose bridge.
