How to Make a Summer Dare Book for Kids

I had to share this Summer Dare Book that I  made for my kids when they were younger.  It was handwritten.  That’s what makes it so special.  If you’re trying to come up with ideas to keep your kids entertained during the summer, then, you may want to try this idea.  (You may want to type your Dare Book.) We all know that when kids get out of school for the summer, it’s not long before they say, “I’m bored!” Well, give this idea a try.  I smile whenever I look at this book. Why? My daughter actually saved this book.  They didn’t finish everything in the book, but it’s nice to look back at the things they finished.

The idea for the book is to list as many things that the kids can do for fun.  They receive points for each activity that is completed.  You can come up with something to reward them for completing the activities.  For example, they are rewarded $0.25 for each activity completed. Perhaps, they will be rewarded with a trip to the amusement park if they have a certain amount of points.  You can be creative with a reward for the kids.

These are some of the activities included in my book:    Don’t forget to take pictures!

Have them cook dinner or make lunch.  It can be something simple, like make sandwiches or desserts.  4 points were awarded for this activity.  It’s the beginning stage of having them cook later on in life.

Get them moving by daring them to jump rope a certain amount of times. 3 to 5 points were awarded for this activity.

You can even list things that are simply fun to do, like wearing a funny hat.  For these types of dares, I only offered 1 point.  You can come up with any dare that you like.

Include a Note page in the back for kids to keep track of the points that they have accumulated.

For this project, I used regular drawing paper. Each page is 8 1/2 x  5 inches.  After writing out each dare, I had it bound at Staples.

I added a plastic cover to protect the book.  Who knows….your child or you may want to keep it as a keepsake.
